This guy understands that many have fallen into the trap of deluding themselves. Their opposition to Bush is so intense, so irrational, that they parrot the enemies propaganda.

And herein lies the danger. For it is similarly easy to parody Bush, to rejoice in his humiliation. But in doing so, it is the Islamic extremists who are surely having the last laugh.

In mocking Bush and deliberately distorting his values, we risk pandering to the fanatics' portrayal of the President as the pantomime villain of global politics, a blood-sucking monster who rejoices in the deaths of innocents and the destruction of Muslim homelands.

Miss, the post was for a friend, who's father is in the last stages of alzheimer's. My way of offering some advice when loosing someone so close. Your question deserves more time than a quick comment can offer, so here goes.

I've broken my back twice, the second time in two places, I have seven bad discs, two ruptured completely. I have the primary nerve for the left side parallel to the spinal cord pinched in four places. So I hurt a lot. Advanced osteoarthritis of the spine, so movement is painful. I'm lucky however. I can still walk, if with a cane, and some pain. So even after the surgeries, I'll not be 100%, this is long term, so the longer I stay mobile, the better.

That you ask for insight into your partners feelings about long term problems, tell's me many good things about you. I'm no expert, so whatever tiny help I can offer, I hope it helps.

What do I want, need to help me deal with this?

That's tough to answer. I'm a proud man, too proud, and after 31 years of doing my best to feed and care for other people, being off work for this,.. well, it shames me. I'm ashamed that I'm not as strong as I want to be, and to not candy coat it, afraid inside of being completely dependent on other people.

So if he's anything like me, babying him, just hurts his pride. Let him do what he thinks he can, unless it's going to hurt him. Go along on a doctors visit if he'll let you, make him feel that he matters enough for you to want to help in his treatment. Even if there's nothing required that you do, just going is a kind of reassurance that can go a long way. My wife, well if she has a hangnail, I go along on the visit, but seldom, does she go on my office visits. The evaluations and tests yes, but not routine visits. That usually depresses me a bit. I know she loves me.. but you feel very much alone, when sitting in a cold exam room, and unpleasant information is given to you.

Encouragement, expressions of support, small gestures like a light hug, a quick kiss. On more intimate terms,.. try not to hurt him, if he's got some form of pain. Couples can always try different things, till something that pleases both, but doesn't hurt him can be found. He'll probably not tell you if you're hurting him, so watch his eyes. I won't ruin it for my wife by saying, we have to stop.. but with my back, she often does hurt me. We're still finding our own way on this.

Our love is unusual in that being the man, I'm the expressive one, she's the one who keeps it inside too often.

Try and let him know, that his condition isn't something that'll drive you away. Try and show him as best you can, that you want him, and are willing to adjust with him together to find your way through this.

There is no roadmap, none.

Just keep in mind, for all our bravery, bravado, our shows of strength and pride, inside where you can't see is a small boy afraid of being abandoned.

Afraid that he's alone in the dark, in the rain and no one cares.

Men are far more complex than the shrinks will admit. We need more than anything else to know we have value in the eyes of those we love.

Clearly I'm not very good at this.. I wish I was better.

Valerie, all I can really say is, if you care about him, let him know as often as you can. Accept that he's going to have bad days, going to be miserable sometimes, possibly short tempered. It doesn't mean he's mad at you, or the world, but maybe at himself. He doesn't mean to hurt your or anyones feelings, it just means he hurts... he's often going to hurt. I find I apologize alot these days myself.

He's hurting, and I suspect, you are too. You seem like good people Miss, I hope you two find a way, and I hope this tiny peek into my mind, helps you into his.;

Via Instapundit, and Austin Bay, I ran into Mr. Hitchen's article on Kerry and his flopped joke.

One thing I already knew is confirmed--there is a very great deal of class resentment in these United States. Another thing I wasn't so sure of is also confirmed--James Webb in Virginia is right to stress the huge rage felt by those of Scots-Irish provenance who feel that they have born the heat and burden of the day in America's wars, and been rewarded with disdain.

Even my most relaxed soldier-correspondent from Iraq itself (a highly educated friend of faultlessly Irish extraction) confessed to a feeling of irritation at the few chances he had to meet Ivy League types in uniform.

Yes there is class distrust, the Ivy League types, aka, liberals, do not usually join up. Disdaining the common values of patriotism and honor. The semi-rural and rural folks who do enlist see what the so called elites think of us, and are hated for it. A return of emotion that they richly deserve. Flyover Americans are just hicks right? Can't read or write and never go online to get various opinions... can't understand nuance or subtle issues..

My faith is my faith, and it doesn't mean I can't accept new theory on a given technology. I'm not a fundiementalist, and most christians aren't. Faith for us is a moral question, stem cell is a unique issue. Human experimentation isn't or shouldn't be open to debate, didn't we learn anything from the Nazi eugenics programs?

I know that it's not a popular qustion here.

You have to learn, to let go sometimes. There is still no cure for what killed my father, no explanation for why my son died at birth. But some things, much as we would love them to be different, just are.

I see the surgeon again in Dec. I've been avoiding seeing him. I know it has to be done, but I dread where this is going. My body is broken, they can repair some of it, but time isn't my ally. I will always be in pain, never free of it. They were blunt about that part. The only grace, is that my mind is unaffected, for which I'm greatful.

I would like a cure, but not at any price.

I see embryonic stem cell research as an evil thing. Harvested embryo's,.. if I had never seen his face, and seen the faces of my two other children in his.. maybe I could look at this clinically, but I can't. Religion or not, could anyone of you in my place, just right him off? consider him just tissue?

There are other ways, maybe not ones with patent medicine men pushing them for money, but this doesn't end research.

I'm working as hard as I can, to not be bitter and angry at the universe for hurting all the time. Most have no idea how difficult that is. Pain causes the natural response to lash out, to hurt someone else in anger, in rage.

I'm trying to avoid that path.

So I'm finding a kind of peace in letting go of the hurt, the anger, the rage that this was visited on me. It's no one else's fault, maybe mine, but not yours. I'm looking for peace, but the rage is still within me, buried, but not expunged.

It's not an easy thing to let a loved one slip away, never easy. I've done it too many times now, and if anything, it's as hard a thing as you will ever do. I would be lying if I said, I loved my father, for that I'm sorry too. My mother's dying screams as the cancer took her into a coma still ring in my head. Sleepless nights are a long, long thing for me.

I see a touch of my mother in my daughter's eyes, myself in my son. So in letting go you can come full circle to the beginning of new life, letting go of your ghosts. Giving them the attention you would have lost by being angry at life, at others.

We all want peace in these things, and to not hurt as we do. That never is though, so time, and reflection, but mostly time ease the pain.

My parents are long gone now, hanging on to them, dragging them with me, because in my grief,.. I can't leave them in peace.. no.

Death is almost never welcome, sometimes however, it's a release. One we have to accept, grieve and move on.

Kerry responded Tuesday with a harsh statement and in a hastily arranged news conference in Seattle: "I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and of his broken policy."

It's pretty simple, Kerr meant what he said, I saw the tape. There is a signifigant wing of the democrat party that looks on the military and veterans with disdain, contempt. They see it as a refuge for white trash, uberpatriots and klansmen, they think anyone really smart would make the choice not to serve. They do believe this, I've spoken with such democrats, and anyone who knows more than a couple of them has as well. Kerry's an elitist fop, he slandered US before, he's doing it now.

The differnce is that the left can no longer protect him from the backlash. He may cost them dearly in the election, so many dems are running from him on this.

As you'll recall, the NYT story quoted the NIE as saying that our military action in Iraq has stirred up more jihadist activity. It conspicuously failed to quote the NIE as saying, as it did, that our withdrawal from Iraq would stir up even more jihadist activity.
If the staffer leaked the NIE to the Times, he could be criminally charged. And, of course, it's outrageous on every level for a staffer to leak classified material for political purposes. Especially a selective leak like this one.

Sheehan will be in good company if she is indeed up for the prize and ultimately wins it, but one has to wonder exactly what she did to deserve it. Camping is a noble endeavor, but surely the Nobel committee could have found a Boy Scout or a person who actually did something who camped for peace instead of someone who camped as part of an almost macabre grieving process that included wishes for time travel in order to kill the President of the United States as he slept when he was an infant.

I'm a vet, and lost an infant son, so I know of service and loss. Is my opinion any less valid? Seems so, since I support my president, and brothers still in uniform. Asperger's Syndrome is a term used when a child or adult has some features of autism but may not have the full blown clinical picture. There is some disagreement about where it fits in the PDD spectrum. A few people with Asperger's syndrome are very successful and until recently were not diagnosed with anything but were seen as brilliant, eccentric, absent minded, socially inept, and a little awkward physically.Although the criteria state no significant delay in the development of language milestones, what you might see is a "different" way of using language. A child may have a wonderful vocabulary and even demonstrate hyperlexia but not truly understand the nuances of language and have difficulty with language pragmatics. Social pragmatics also tend be weak, leading the person to appear to be walking to the beat of a "different drum". Motor dyspraxia can be reflected in a tendency to be clumsy. In social interaction, many people with Asperger's syndrome demonstrate gaze avoidance and may actually turn away at the same moment as greeting another.

That caught my eye, I do that, I'm conscience of it even while trying to avoid the habit. My vocabulary is extremely rich, but I don't have trouble with the nuances, in fact I use them to my advantage.

The children I have known do desire interaction with others but have trouble knowing how to make it work. They are, however, able to learn social skills much like you or I would learn to play the piano. There is a general impression that Asperger's syndrome carries with it superior intelligence and a tendency to become very interested in and preoccupied with a particular subject. Often this preoccupation leads to a specific career at which the adult is very successful.
At younger ages, one might see the child being a bit more rigid and apprehensive about changes or about adhering to routines. This can lead to a consideration of OCD but it is not the same phenomenon. Many of the weaknesses can be remediated with specific types of therapy aimed at teaching social and pragmatic skills. Anxiety leading to significant rigidity can be also treated medically.

Now, I was an exceptionally socially awkward child. I never could seem to grasp the rules of the game, I was in my early twenties when I finally discovered how to interact easily with women. Men, I was in so many fights as a kid, to stiff necked to back down from a scrap. Two retarded brothers, I had to defend them alot. I learned early that I was tough, much tougher than the boys fighting me were, so I developed a warriors sense of right and wrong, a personal code of sorts. Men were opponents, women and friends were more difficult to learn to accept.

Although it is harder, adults with Asperger's can have relationships, families, happy and productive lives.

I have been able to, although it was after the family dependent on me had finally died. Then I was free, free at 37.

My interests aren't limited to a small number. I am considered,... unigue. If only for singular modes of behavior and attitude. My IQ was tested online at 133, it was noted I had exceptional math skills and was called a "facts curator", for having an abnormal memory of facts.

Clumsy, an inherited trait common among males in my family. But an exception, my legs aren't well coordinated, but my hands.. I can snatch falling objects from the air easily, with freakish speed. My hands are very fast, strong, grip pressure in my right is 125lbs., strong enough to crush many things. Left, not so good from nerve damage. 80lbs. I draw and paint well, so hand eye coordination is higher than average.

so yes and no, I fit many but not all the criteria, and there are variations on some of them.

Birth defects, dense bone structure with a spine turned 180 degrees as it enters my skull. You tell me? A form of autism? Genetic markers of a neanderthal heritage? For the record I have a heavy brow, but not the sloping forehead. Very broad shoulders, deep chest, unusually so. In basic I wore a 44 short dress blouse, hard to find in that size. at the time a 30 inch waist with a 44 inch chest. and I wasn't a body builder, though I did lift weights.

I have heard the theory before of them breeding with erectis to form modern man, but this is new to me. My senses are well within normal, failing vison, hearing all messed up, yet there is no baldness in my line, an abundence of hair. I feel things, sense... my grandmother called it second sight, another way to describe intuition possibly. But it's stronger than that, not a generalized feeling.. it's very sharp when it happens. Perhaps a heightened perception of subliminal cues that otherwise go unnoticed? Kind of like a threat senser, a warning to be ready to fight or flee.

I have always known I was different somehow from everyone around me. I have no idea if this could be why, just that I always wondered how I could be so smart and have so many weaknesses in simple areas. So smart, so strong, tough, and ripping myself apart inside for my flaws and weakness. I never thought of myself as a mutant or any such thing, just,.. well having a sense of being, "different, off, the odd duck" as I have been called. I have searched everywhere for answers. Some said it's just the eccentricities of high intelligence, some that it was just me being special, like grandpa was... some said it was me just being odd for even feeling that way, for feeling outside the group.

I am different, and yes, that does bother me even now. Anyway, an interesting excercise, not one I grasp onto though. I'm not that much a hypercondriact, I've enough wrong with me already. Though, yesterday when I went for a follow up at the dentist after having my teeth all extracted.. the nurse asked me if post op was ok, no problems. My answer was hesitant, I told her it was fine, about what I expected, probably easier than most have. That arched her eyebrows, she said, "you didn't... let me check,(as she pulled my chart). She looked back amazed. She said, you didn't call us once?" No... "Honey, everybody calls us after, you didn't have any pain?" yes, but I don't like to whine. "Sweetie, everybody calls back for pain, you didn't even once,.. you're a tough guy." I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not really tough, but a little nuts. Probably by some charts, yes.. but it's frightening being so outside the norm.

Fine, have it, get the rules changed to recognize domestic unions or something else you could call it, but not marriage. That is not open to debate, never will be. A guy just got stabbed at the end of my street, about a hundred yards from our house. The police are here in numbers looking for the assailent. The neighbors are all up, and one loaned us an extra scanner. The victim just got on a lifeflight to Columbus, either Riverside, or the OSU Medical Center. No word on condition.

I have my two kids here, four nephews and a niece doing a sleep over, they're all in bed, safe. But I won't be sleeping tonight. I have to much of a police background to take chances, and desperate men do stupid things. So I'll stay up till I'm sure he's long gone.

How do I tell this to the kids without scaring them in the morning? Caution yes, but, you know, I wouldn't want them to be afraid to play in the yard..

I found this article on Drudge, while alarming at first, you need to consider a few things with it. Our Tanks operated in downtown Baghdad, and survived swarms of missiles, even Milan's and the newer Russian types. One A1 Abrams, was documented to have been hit by 8 different missiles of various sizes. The crew compartment was never breached, and the tank never lost power, remaining with the column through the advance.

This first hand account shows what I mean. The Israeli's, like us, aren't ready to wet their pants like the first article implies. Israel in the 73 War lost a large number of tanks to Russian made Sagger missiles that the Egyptians had. They still fought them off, and still held their ground. Missile crews are a danger to tanks, but they aren't an invincible threat. We have already proven that in Iraq, well trained crews always have an advantage over infantry. The hezzy's might be well equiped, but how good is their training and doctrine?

Not good enough certainly.

They have a single facet of one component of land warfare. Hooray for them, they still have to survive hostile air cover from fighters and gunships, still have to stay hidden until they can reach the Israeli's at short range, and they have to survive retaliation, once the Israeli's know where they are. In short they have to shoot and scoot. Not so easy when air cover is close and handy. They have to get a clean solid hit on the weaker parts of the tank, also, not easy. A wire guided missile has to be held on it's target till it hits. At two thousand yards, that's really tough when they pop smoke or fire on your position, you can't sight when you're ducking fire.

Basically, it's not as bad as the retired consultants make it out to be. A danger yes, something that needs our attention to stop, but hardly the end of Israel's armored forces. They have fought against missiles before. They have learned how to do it. As we have. So I suggest, that the author of the first article, needs to calm down a little.

These lads could just as easily be from Detoit or Cleveland. The training we all got prepares you with knowledge on how to fight, not on being fearless. There is no such thing, all soldiers are afraid in combat, all of them. The only profession where even if you do everything correctly, you can still die in the randomness of bombs and bullets. This is what essentially hit the Israeli ship. A version of the forty year old Russian Silworm missile. It's not all that sophisticated, but reports are now, that the Israeli vessel had it's anti-missile defenses not enabled. They didn't know that Iran had sent these to Lebanon.

It's about what I thought. The early reports that a cessna packed with explosives and remote piloted had hit the ship were just outright goofy. You don't sneak up on a ship with a cessna type aircraft, it wasn't believeable. Now that it appears Iran is using Revolutionary Guards to man certain weapons... well they were bound to try and join the fight on the sly. The missile got in a sucker punch, but any other launches will fail. The silkworm is big, slow, and rather easy to shoot down if you know it's coming.

It's the comments here that are of interest, the article itself is entirely one sided in it's portarayal of Frisch's self serving piggy back ride to martyrdom. She said things no one intelligent can defend, that is not in dispute, what is however is the rush by the left to claim,... well, you guys are worse. I haven't been to one site on the right where I have seen someone's family and children threatened.

I've never threatened anyone with actual harm, made comments about clue bats, should be beaten, step in front of a bus, things like that. But never did I think about actually hurting anyone just for being on the left. Ostracised, mocked, shamed yes, I believe some of what they stand for is shameful. As for cussing, well, I'm lower working class, meaning for me not to swear isn't the norm. I can speak without it, so sometimes it seems I'm not from the hillbilly side, but that's deceptive. I'm entirely a person of my class and culture. So it's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned to cuss, in fact, it's wholely acceptable. Blogging can be rough hewn with a snarky comment resulting in open war. That's not what I'm concerned with.

A person should be free of worry that their family isn't safe because some unidentified person decides to make them so. That's where I draw the line, hate what I say if you like, that's your right. It's not your right however to instill the chill, the fear that an unseen lunatic wants your children dead. That deserves prison time. Frisch is dancing all around that, and her knee jerk reactionary defenders are playing it down, as if that's not what she did. Clearly that's exactly what she wanted Jeff to believe. When she even admited that much.

So here it is. To the credit of some on the left, they have indeed slapped her down for her efforts. That gives me some hope that we aren't nearly as divided as you would think on first glance. We'll never agree on much, but basic human decency shouldn't be debatable. Deny Frisch the martrydom she seeks and let her feel the anger of the left and right. We be able to agree on the basics.

Heat shields are greatly advanced, and materials science advances mean far less weight, more bang for the buck. The shuttle was a grand achievement, but it's time is nearly up, and we seem to be going back to proven, safe technology. The other big reason is cost, space flight will never be cheap, but with the numbers of missions needed, we have to think cost effective, if we are ever going to go to Mars.

The Bush administration and The New York Times are again at odds over national security, this time with new reports of a broad government effort to track global financial transfers.
The newspaper, which in December broke news of an effort by the National Security Agency to monitor Americans' telephone calls and e- mails, declined a White House request not to publish a story about the government's inspection of monies flowing in and out of the country.

So, how many Americans wire large sums of cash overseas do you think? Only the very wealthy? Or someone who for one reason or another wants his money hidden from view? The average American will look at this and just think, "why do the press seem determined to spoil as many covert intelligence operations as they can?" It's not a story most will find troulbling, other than to see that elite left papers are undermining the WOT as much as they can.

So we need warrents to track tranfers of cash to Lebanon? Syria?, the West Bank? Do we? It's dancing on the head of a pin, playing games with doting i's and crossing t's. They damage our ability to gather intel, and don't care... after all,

If you've followed the news coverage since September 11th, you've heard of the decided slant that the BBC has engaged in against the US position at every turn. Case in point.

Not only did they fail to speak with a unified voice in the Senate, but, when the House voted last week, 42 Democrats sided with the Republicans. Only three Republicans voted the other way.

I was reading this article by Matt Labash of The Weekly Standard, yes, that conservative magazine. His take on YearlyKOS was amusing, but it did start me thinking. His comment on the KOSKrowds

But how would Pontificator know that? He just posts from his digital echo chamber. He called me "that scowling unshaven frat boy some of you may have seen skulking around the convention grounds." Not true, you lying sack of pontification. I wasn't skulking, I was practically skipping, as you would if you were headed to the "Hot Topic of the Day featuring a panel of top bloggers" discussion. Plus, I was never in a frat. Plus, I shaved every single morning with my Schick Quattro, which is designed "for the guy who wants everything . . . except irritation."

I think that "digital echo chamber" is pretty accurate. The difference between important bloggers like Professor Reynolds, Treacher, Powerline, and so many others, and the kiddy revolutionaries at KOS, is that they actually have day jobs. Either writing or in Reynolds position a law professor, jobs that lend expertise to what they have to say. Now they have some influence yes, but because they have credibility on the issues that concern the center right. There are many, many more that are entertaining, fun to read, and a gathering place for friends. Then there are personal blogs like mine, or no importance at all, other than a place to say what's on your mind, with the occasional visiter. If I offer anything it's just that I put into words what others are thinking, but couldn't quite say it as they would like. That's my value to the bloggsphere, one voice in millions.

What it shows in Mr. Labash's article, is that KOS and his followers act as if in the author's words.

WHOA! DID YOU JUST FEEL THAT? Did you just feel the earth stop spinning on its axis, then reverse its rotation? Did you feel the moon enter into its Seventh House, and Jupiter align with Mars? Did you feel Jesus stomp off in a snit, as He was replaced at the right hand of God by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, aka Kos? As in the eponymous blog Daily Kos? As in the four-year-old progressive website that is galvanizing the netroots and igniting the People Powered Movement? As in the site that is reshaping the political landscape, uprooting the old order, and, in Kos's words, relegating those who'd stand in the movement's way "to the dustbin of history"? Oh--and which is also a place where people blog about themselves?

Methinks Markos is a bit off the deep end. What do they have really to offer? Passion, conviction, a fanatical belief in the second coming of the all infalable liberal uberman? Sorry, but you'd think it was a revival meeting complete with tents and baptisms and the speaking in tongues.... KOS and his partner are selling themselves as consultants, yet what are they really selling? His following is being compared to a cult, which is about right when any criticism of the Great Leader results in threats. B ut when you come right down to it, they really have nothing but rants against a political system that's been fairly successful at weening out the lunatic fringe. That is their real issue, they aren't crazy, or fanatics, it's just everyone else are sheep. Which explains why his ability to affect any real change so far is being strangled not by the right or the center, but the saner part of the moderate left. They know something that Kos doesn't. Calling your opponent a Nazi simply for being a republican, doesn't go over very well when it exposes you as a nut. When it paints you as irresponsible and clueless as to what real grownups think.

It won't be us that bring down KOS's little empire, but devoted democrats who are tired of being told what to do by people who can't remember to be American, before being a liberal. By wiser people who see just how divisive and fatally flawed this brand of socialism is. Kos will fall because the democrats finally decided to not let the nuts run their party anymore.

That's the question that's been bouncing around the blogosphere ever since The New York Times's Chris Suellentrop broke the news last Friday about a 2000 run-in Armstrong had with the Securities and Exchange Commission over alleged stock touting. But Armstrong, Kos, and other big-time liberal bloggers have almost entirely ignored the issue, which is a bit surprising considering their tendency to rapidly respond to even the smallest criticism.

Why the strange silence in the face of such damning allegations? Well, I think we now know the answer. It's a deliberate strategy orchestrated by Kos. TNR obtained a missive Kos sent earlier this week to "Townhouse," a private email list comprising elite liberal bloggers, including Jane Hamsher, Matt Stoller, and Christy Hardin Smith. And what was Kos's message to this group that secretly plots strategy in the digital equivalent of a smoke-filled backroom? Stay mum! He wrote (emphasis added below):

A lasting tribute

They didn't make it. They were discovered a few hours ago, and the politics are flying hot and heavy, the left is attempting to make this tradgedy into another reason to just give up and run home. The deaths of these young men affect me, dredging up memories of that awful spring in 04. I'm so very sorry for the men, for their loved ones. I won't use this post as a chance to attack those who would deny the good that has been done. This small sffort is the only thing that I know how to do, not to hang on this moment, but to think of what the result of their labors can achieve.

In the words of the song, "I believe", I really do. The face of Iraq that we want to save isn't the swaddled face of it's tormenters, but the open face of it's children. Their's is the future we fight for, their's, and the faces of our own children. All the excuses and delusions in the world cannot account for what we hope to accomplish. To deny this future, is to say that those young men , all the young men, died for nothing. That's a robbery I won't allow, can never allow.

The monument to Thomas and Kristian isn't going to be a block of stone, it's in the living breathing lives of the children who will have a chance at a future now, because of men like them. That is their legacy. That is their promise.

The United States warned that a North Korean launch of a long-range missile would be a "provocative act" and began intensive diplomatic consultations on a response.
"There are reports they may be preparing for a long-range missile launch," said Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman.

"The United States government as a whole has been consulting with allies in the region and has made clear than a North Korean missile launch would be a provocative act," he said.
Whitman noted that the United States has limited missile defenses but would not say whether it intends to use them against a North Korean missile launch.

Could we shoot it down? Possibly, there are some assets we could use. That aren't mentioned, the Nike-Hercules system is old, but still based in Alaska. The Navy, and what ever black projects we may have that have aplications. I doubt that we will say that we intercepted it even if we try. First, the technology is still in infancy, and may not be ready to use. Then there's the what if we try and miss? Better to say nothing as the NK's wouldn't know if we tried unless we told them. A successful intercept, may also be kept secret, and chalked up to a missile failure. We don't reveal what we don't have to, it makes counter measures harder to manage. In short..

Fathers Day

This is my seventh one now, seven years since my daughter was born. My son, is four, and only now becoming aware of the holidays other than children centered ones. Fathers Day? What's that dad? Well, it's rather complicated, a father's bond with his children is different than a mother's. Both are warm, loving, and both cherish the little lives we've made together. The differences are subtle, more of tone than substance.

A father's place with the children, at least for us, is rather,... well it's like mommy fills the need for a friend, a giver, a more accessable playmate. A source of easy affection. A father, is more formal I guess is the word. Daddy loves you, but he expects certain things from you too. I'll always love them no matter what, but it's with the father that they learn things more easily than with mom. They start to pick up things like, responsiblity, working hard to get something, and taking pride in having earned it. They strive to please daddy, to earn his approval, my love they have, but it's my respect that they seek. My daughter is so special, so smart, already at the top of her class. She's also getting peer pressure to act dumb. Classmates who pick on her for knowing the answers they don't.

Never, ever be ashamed to be the best baby. Never hide what you are, don't dumb yourself down to win the friendship of someone who only wants you to play the dummy so they can appear smart. They aren't and never will be your friend, not if they demand your self respect as a trophy. I think she understood what I was telling her. She's so very able, and to waste that is a sin against herself. I'll deal with the bullies, through her teachers, her school, and through that kids parents if I must. I won't see her hold back her talent for a worthless friendship. She shines, and should never want to be ashamed of it. I also tried to teach her, that being the smartest kid, isn't a license to rub it in the other kids faces. She can be kind, needn't be stuck up, she doesn't have to be like the bully, to make others feel bad to make herself feel good.

My pride in her is so profound, and she's doing so well. I don't fear for her ability to make friends, she has so many already. She's taking my advice, and she's doing her best, all that a father really asks for really. My son will be starting preschool in the fall. I have already been working with him to learn things that will help him...

Their mother could teach them these things, she's also so very bright. Coming from dad however, these lessons seem to be more easily accepted. Their mommy will always come to mind first, that's a bond I would never seek to interfere with. A bond that's natural. My place is natural too, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's before bedtime, when they each climb up on either side of me in my chair, as they snuggle close and say, " We love you daddy" that I feel like I'm king of all things. For a little while, I'm mindful too of the responsibility of teaching them to not just accomplish tasks, but how to have rules that govern their lives. How to behave in ways that allow them to have the self respect and decency that we all would like to have.

Fathers Day isn't about gifts in boxes, but gifts from their hearts, gifts given through their eyes. If you measure a man's wealth by that, I'm a very wealthy man.

Obviously there is a major contradiction between our version of the story and what was reported yesterday. As such, we are going to stand down on the Rove matter at this time. We defer instead to the nation's leading publications.

Meaning, we are completely giving up on even trying to get it right, please go watch the TV news instead... Seriously? Well, I never thought they were worth jack to begin with, but it's nice for them to admit it in public like this. The fan replies are cherry too.

After 44 years, Dan Rather will leave CBS by the end of the month, at the latest, industry sources said Friday. His departure could come as early as next week.

The tragedy in the piece, according to some at CBS, is that Rather, for whatever reason, refuses to accept a lesser role that would keep him at the network.

60 Minutes creator Don Hewitt and legendary former anchor Walter Cronkite, both nudged out of their positions, still are under contract and maintain offices at CBS News, though their duty is light.

Rather wants to work hard. If he can't do it at CBS, he'll do it somewhere else.
But no matter where he ends up, Rather will forever be known as a CBS newsman, the correspondent says.

"You can let him leave, but CBS News is burned onto his forehead."

ok, that last link was catty, so what. Rather was the hard hitting slam a fist on the table press icon, and he always spoke truth to power. That is, if you were a republican. Democrats got pretty puff pieces, and Dan finally destroyed himself in a Captain Ahab moment lusting after the Bush great white National Guard whale.

This report should give the MSM something to think about.

"Both the media and terrorists benefit from terrorist incidents," their study contends. Terrorists get free publicity for themselves and their cause. The media, meanwhile, make money "as reports of terror attacks increase newspaper sales and the number of television viewers."

The researchers counted direct references to terrorism between 1998 and 2005 in the New York Times and Neue Zuercher Zeitung, a respected Swiss newspaper. They also collected data on terrorist attacks around the world during that period. Using a statistical procedure called the Granger Causality Test, they attempted to determine whether more coverage directly led to more attacks.

The results, they said, were unequivocal: Coverage caused more attacks, and attacks caused more coverage -- a mutually beneficial spiral of death that they say has increased because of a heightened interest in terrorism since Sept. 11, 2001.

Professor Reynold's who provided the link said,

Lawsuits, with news agencies being brought to trial for complicity in terror attacks? I'm clueless as to wether this could happen, but it does make a kind of sense. Especially if it comes out that Americans are killed in direct response to the terrorists media coverage. We've all heard the rumors of media being given tape shot by terrorists themselves, to feed the evening news cycle. If it's true, and they don't say anything up front, doesn't that make them an active arm of the terrorists?

Complex to be sure. I do think that merely claiming press priviledge isn't enough, not when one side is openly using them, and they don't tell their audience. So maybe lawsuits are a good idea. Freedom of the press shouldn't mean, free to use your own press against you. No matter how willing they are to be used.

I remember this from my favorite president. He truly held to it, and while the times have changed, I try to adhere to it. In this day and age, the word republican is too narrow a definition. So I expand it to those who share your concerns and values. I will not speak ill of someone on my side, unless they break the following rules.

1. Openly attack their own side.
2. Change sides
3. commit an act harmful to our side.

Does make me a partisan, sure it does, but that's hardly a bad thing. It's only bad when you defend someone who isn't worthy of it, a crook, or a knave of one variety or another. Someone whoharms the ideals you believe in. Which brings me to this, Kos and his fanatics scream about Impeachment, because they say, he lied, wages an illegal war. That would merit impeachment,....

if it were true.

The problem is that to a KOSSACK, all you have to do to lie, is be a republican. Hardly an unquestionable source, since they stand to gain power if their little propaganda ploy works. Just read what they say, and you have to wonder? Do they smother republicans in their own families in the dark of night? I mean jesus, how can you hate that much, and still mingle with other citizens.... knowing that some of them... gasp, are the dreaded sith lord republicans.

I will speak no ill of someone who is on my side, who does no harm to the cause. Can KOS say that? After Lieberman? The work remains to be done, but still, this is a crushing defeat for al-Qeada. That we now have names, and places, even if they're running, a target rich enviroment. Big names, if we nab them, mean much better intell. It's not just Iraq either, this could cripple their operations in the whole region. We haven't won the war yet, but this may be our battle of Midway in this war, the singular moment when it all turns in our favor. A lot of work to do...

You know, I've no trouble at all believing this.

What - exactly - is the relationship between DailyKos and the candidates it supports? And when are they going to stop being coy about it?

Instapundit provided the link. It's enteresting though, I've come to the conclusion that there are basically four kinds of bloggers.

A. First rank types like Professor Reynolds, experts in their fields. Journalists, military experts, professionals in a multitude of fields.

B. Part time bloggers who have knowledge and expertise, but blog for fun, for relaxation, really smart people who have something important to say.

C. Hack bloggers, ones who push a fringe agenda regardless of it's merit. Conspiracy hacks, UFO true believers, Klan types, neo-nazis, all the certifiable crazies.

D. Everyday joe types, men and women who blog as a hobby over family, about friends, politics, movies, whatever enterests them.

Now these aren't absolutes, and there's bound to be some cross-overs. It's merely my own opinion so it's worth no more than that. I blogged for a time at a B level blog, but never had any special talents, we're still friends, and I still go back to check in every couple of days. Sondrak's place is one of those types that is impossible to to define, I love it, but wouldn't try and pigeon hole her. If I had to, I'd put her as a cross between A & B, highly entertaining, plus, they actually have some serious talents.

Me, I'm just a D. type. No special talents or aspirations. I don't break news, or entertain large groups of people, I blog for me, and it's as simple as that. I love to write, and am forever trying to hone my skills, minor as they are. But I make no claim to anyones time, or like KOS, their money. KOS may be the worst type, a combinaton of C and B, he get's the traffic, but is nothing more than a paid hack when he hold's his fire, for money. The studies about leftwing hate being at an all time high may have something to do with that. His readers are convinced that the middle and right that vote against them are evil, and not just wrong or unconvinced.

Which puts them in with the neo-nazi and conspiracy types.

Also, KOS's appitite for PUNISHING those that disagree within the party,... I mean really, it's like slashing your teachers tires over a bad grade. KOS will never rise above hack till he loses that schoolyard bully aspect of his site. I don't know anyone else who would take actual revenge against someone just for saying, "I disagree",... do you?

The figures that KOS cites, how many of them are from critics, who like me go there to laugh at them, and how many who actually agree? I'd bet his numbers would really fall if you could seperate the two.

So now he can't duck the hard questions.

A criminal defense attorney for a Marine under investigation in the Haditha killings says he will call a senior Democratic congressman as a trial witness, if his client is charged, to find out who told the lawmaker that U.S. troops are guilty of cold-blooded murder.

Murtha was the one Congressman to issue public statements on Haditha, both claiming that guilt wasn't in question, and alleging a coverup. He claimed inside knowledge, which strangely, onley he seems to posses.

Col. Dave Lapan, a spokesman at Marine Corps headquarters at the Pentagon, said Mr. Murtha was one of eight senior House members and senators briefed by Gen. Hagee in May on the investigation. "I don't know what he told them," Col. Lapan said.

and the other seven seem to be complicit in silence, if you believe Murtha. I don't actually. I think he recieved a general briefing with the others, then RAN to a camera to wildly exaggerate and distort what he was told. In a courts martial, he's bound by the same laws as everyone else. He can be charged with purjury, if he can not prove his claims. Ironic that the democrat who hoped to hitch his wagon to a war crimes star, may end up in prison because he got tripped up in his own distoted lies. He's not able to claim he was just claiming that it was his opinion, not when there's a ream of film showing him making his claims of inside knowledge. Boromir is my favorite hero from the Lord of the Rings. He's like all of us, flawed, but he in the end did the right thing. His sacrifice was one of the acts that allowed Merry and Pippin to grow, to find in themselves the hero that they needed to be.

Aragon, would be king, Gandolf, the others all had a part to play. Boromir's was to light the way to finding the courage that can't surrender, can't quit. He was loyal to the very end. He lit a light inside the hearts of his friends, his perhaps was the most human, most touching of the heroes stories.

It is the essence of intolerance, and it describes two-thirds of America's far left today (and nearly half of America's far right, which is not a whole lot better). The anger this group has is not just with President Bush or his policies, but rather with the average Americans who support him.

One explanation for the explosion in intolerance on the left is frustration, of course. The Bush administration has been an unmitigated nightmare for many liberals. From the Iraq war to the appointment of two conservative Supreme Court justices, America seems increasingly like an alien nation to some people. Worst of all, more than half the country was complicit in the nightmare when it supported Mr. Bush for re-election in 2004. No wonder extreme liberals, regardless of what they might claim in polite company, appear to dislike conservative people almost as much as they detest the president himself.

The author suggests that it will translate into Congress returning to democratic party hands. I disagree, because just hating the other half of the country more doesn't automatically increase your numbers. The right would have to stay home for the left to win. One other striking point, the author doesn't mention, but the implication is clear. The left wants not just power, but retribution. If they get in, expect the worst, political lynchings, special proscuters, Congressional hearings...

Jason Leopold, the Truthout.org reporter who asserted May 13 that Karl Rove had been indicted in the CIA leak case, told the syndicated Ed Schultz radio show that he stands by his original report.

Rawstory is left of the isle too, but surprisingly, I find them a lot more open and intellectually honest, than Truthout. This link shows why I think this. Bush Makes Surprise Visit to Iraq

President Bush arrived in Baghdad today for a face-to-face meeting with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki -- an effort, the White House said, to get a clear sense of the premier's priorities and how the U.S. government could help his government succeed.

The White House originally had said Bush was scheduled to be at Camp David and to hold a video-conference with Maliki this morning. Instead, without telling the Iraqi government or all but his closest advisers, the president slipped out of Washington last night and made the 11-hour trip to Baghdad International Airport, landing at 4:08 p.m. Baghdad time (8:08 a.m. EDT).

I expect that KOS and company will both say this is another "yawn" PR stunt, don't bother to look, aaaannnnnd, that IT'S AN OUTRAGE, HIM TAUNTING THE TERRORISTS WILL ONLY BRING ON MORE ATTACKS AND DEATH. The response I predict will be that schizo, both yawner and outrage.

Can liberal bloggers and Democrats get along?

The Democratic players back in Washington think these bloggers have way too much attitude; they recall what happened when one of their own, strategist Steve Elmendorf, told a reporter that Democratic candidates should not become "captive of the activist left." For that, Moulitsas called Elmendorf a "sleazebag," threatened to wreck his business, and triggered a flamewar against the guy. This is why, today, the D.C. insiders will only voice their concerns about the bloggers in exchange for anonymity.

KOS and his players are only for inquisitions, hammering down anyone that isn't playing from the far left socialist deck. The louder KOS screams he's in control, the better republicans look to voters. Because quite simply, KOS is an asshole, and his allies are the East German Secret Police. Dare not to think any thought not KOS approved, or they won't just yell, they'll try to destroy you personally.

I always find it amusing when a Hollywood type with his own fuel guzzeling entourage tells me that my lawn mower is destroying the planet. Especially when like Gore, he burns jet fuel by the ton to travel all over and chastise America for being wasteful. He could, you know, just say it on TV, but then he'd have to pay for that, and fund raisers seem to be the primary goal.

So, I find his evangelism on this suspect.

Assuming the unlikely case that all the natural drivers of planetary temperature change ceased to operate at the time of measured atmospheric change then a 30% increment in atmospheric carbon dioxide caused about one-third of one degree temperature increment since and thus provides empirical support for less than one degree increment due to a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
