VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI "sincerely regrets" that Muslims have been offended by some of his words in a recent speech in Germany, the Vatican said Saturday ? stopping short of issuing an apology the Islamic world has demanded. The new Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said the pope's position on Islam is unmistakably in line with Vatican teaching that the church regards Muslims with "esteem."

I don't know the official Vatican view on islam, I don't care. I just wish they were as fervent in their desire not to offend Jews and Americans... but I digress. After all, Americans and Israeli's won't bomb the Holy City, but a backpack bomb could find it's way there. So much for "esteem", when it's cowardice not to say things that might offend islam.

Islam needs to reform it's fanatics, reform it's clergy to understand death threats are evil. To pussyfoot around that isn't doing them any respect. If you respect them, tell them the truth, if you're afraid of them...

it rather well makes the original point, doesn't it?

OK, this pissed me off

Local paper, reprinting an opinion piece on divide politics.

Two weeks ago, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, his pollster, and his political director all predicted Democrats would make big gains in Nov. 7 House and Senate elections by focusing on economic insecurity at home.

But since July, oil prices have fallen about 20 percent, gas prices at the pump have fallen by more than 10 percent the past two weeks, the stock market has rallied and there were new bullish reports on income gains.

Meanwhile, the headlines have been dominated by 9/11 memorials and a debate over national security. And Democrats took the bait and made Boehner's hyperbole a multi-day story, with them on the defensive. If there is Republican turf in a year that looks pretty sour for the GOP, that is it.

So, it's such a sucky enviroment for the GOP, with gas prices falling and the economy moving right along. So sucky, that democrats as usual shoot themselves in the foot by spouting off on something like defense when it's clear they mostly don't understand the question. If this is bad, give me more of it.

His larger point, he decries the hateful name calling, yet fails to mention the venal low brow hate filled bleating on the left. So even if he gives lip service to both sides playing rough, his examples are rather pointedly slanted to outrage democrats without showing them how much of it they actually engage in too.

The impluse to call someone who actively fights to make waging the war harder a traitor is natural, if unreasonable. Just as unreasonable as the Kosite love of dark conspiracies and accusations of fascism on the republicans. Do I think The minority house leader forwards secrets to Bin Laden?

but to say that GW wants to turn us into a police state while weaving bullshit conspiracy yarns is just as vile. So put up, or shut up lefties. We sit on our jerks and clowns, if you do. Don't giggle over Micheal Moore's distortions, then say with a straight face you loathe hate politics, it doesn't make you look very truthful.

or intelligent.

I've found little taste for posting lately, as I enjoy commenting on other blogs more. I'll keep this up just in case I feel the need, but forgive me if I go a while between posts.
