double standards

Drudge led me here.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican on Friday strongly deplored Israel's strikes on Lebanon, saying they were "an attack" on a sovereign and free nation.

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano said Pope Benedict and his aides were very worried that the developments in the Middle East risked degenerating into "a conflict with international repercussions."

"In particular, the Holy See deplores right now the attack on Lebanon, a free and sovereign nation, and assures its closeness to these people who already have suffered so much to defend their independence," he told Vatican Radio.

just one itty bitty little problem with that, the so called sovereign nation allowed attacks on another soveriegn nation from it's soil. Not only allowed them, but actively supported them.

So tell me Cardinal, why not condemn Lebanon's blatant disregard for Israel's sovereignty?

or don't Jews count in your eyes? This is so typical of the Vatican, they always find a way to blame the Jews, always. Their conduct during WW II was disgracefull, and they haven't learned a thing from it. They haven't done anything to help moderate muslim behavior, and now they once again, make excuses for them to kill even more Jews. The moral authority of the church is rather tainted here. Either condemn all the parties or shut up, your bigotry is showing.

ground rules

First off my own personal rule is I will not delete any comment posted here unless it is illegal, or excessively graphic. I'm not a prude but I'm not running a sex blog either, my friends come here, and some family, so content should be,.. well in it's proper context. A comment left in the post below tests that, it's a link, and not all that graphic in words so I won't delete it. I will never hide from what I post, or refuse to admit I posted something wrong. So in the spirit of open debate, I tolerate some things that I may or may not like on my blog.

I do not wish to be a link dump so, if you want to post a link, please, non commercial links only. I'm asking too, no porn links. As I said, I wish this site to be open to anyone and I'm not going much beyond PG, soo...

let's behave now.

Bad losers, losing badly.

Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador says he has "irrefutable" video proof of fraud committed by his election rivals.

except for one thing,

The other showed an alleged supporter of Mr Calderon's National Action Party (Pan) apparently stuffing six ballots into a box being used for congressional elections, which were held on the same day as the presidential race.

The Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) said the man was putting some ballots that had been put in the wrong box into the correct box and that this had been witnessed by representatives of all the main parties.

and

The EU said last week its monitors had found no indication of irregularities.

not exactly rightwingers the EU, are they? This is just tawdry, an attempt to lift a page from the democrats playbook. When it's close, scream fraud, wether there was any or not, wether you can prove it, or not. Make the process suspect, then demand a victory in court that you couldn't get at the ballot box. This isn't how democracy is supposed to work.

When you make losing an election not your own fault, but a heinous crime against you by forces unknown, you set the stage for a disaster. You make sure no election is fair, because no one will believe it. So what happens in 2008? If a democrat wins by a fraction, can we run around screaming thief, thief?

why not?

They set an example that's going to bite them in the future. When fairness doesn't mean fair, but only I get to win, you risk the future of democracy.

Beware those who say..

A rocket carrying India's heaviest satellite has disintegrated in a ball of smoke and flame seconds after lift-off, dealing a crippling blow to the country's ambitious space programme.

The Indian's aren't a backward people, and I defy anyone who is serious to say we, the Russian's, the Chinese, the Japanese and the European's haven't had a fair share of launch failures. You learn, you retool, then move on. Mankind is destined to journey from the earth, that drive exists in many nations. So beware crippling blows, catostrophic failures, and stunning setbacks. We've all had them, and we still landed on the Moon.

The drama of a launch failure may be big news for a week, but the steps we all take are in increments, so treat this as just a growing pain. India is no more deterred than we are, and I notice our program proceeds even after tragic accidents. I won't write them off, it's a big solar system, plenty of room for all of us.

A cautionary tale..

Blogging as a form of warfare,

It's the comments here that are of interest, the article itself is entirely one sided in it's portarayal of Frisch's self serving piggy back ride to martyrdom. She said things no one intelligent can defend, that is not in dispute, what is however is the rush by the left to claim,... well, you guys are worse. I haven't been to one site on the right where I have seen someone's family and children threatened.

I've never threatened anyone with actual harm, made comments about clue bats, should be beaten, step in front of a bus, things like that. But never did I think about actually hurting anyone just for being on the left. Ostracised, mocked, shamed yes, I believe some of what they stand for is shameful. As for cussing, well, I'm lower working class, meaning for me not to swear isn't the norm. I can speak without it, so sometimes it seems I'm not from the hillbilly side, but that's deceptive. I'm entirely a person of my class and culture. So it's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned to cuss, in fact, it's wholely acceptable. Blogging can be rough hewn with a snarky comment resulting in open war. That's not what I'm concerned with.

A person should be free of worry that their family isn't safe because some unidentified person decides to make them so. That's where I draw the line, hate what I say if you like, that's your right. It's not your right however to instill the chill, the fear that an unseen lunatic wants your children dead. That deserves prison time. Frisch is dancing all around that, and her knee jerk reactionary defenders are playing it down, as if that's not what she did. Clearly that's exactly what she wanted Jeff to believe. When she even admited that much.

So here it is. To the credit of some on the left, they have indeed slapped her down for her efforts. That gives me some hope that we aren't nearly as divided as you would think on first glance. We'll never agree on much, but basic human decency shouldn't be debatable. Deny Frisch the martrydom she seeks and let her feel the anger of the left and right. We be able to agree on the basics.
